Newcastle United are interested in signing AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw, according to recent Italian media sources. The German defender has piqued the interest of the Magpies, who are looking to improve their defensive options this summer.
According to reports, the two teams have discussed a potential transfer.
Newcastle is looking to sign Thiaw, a highly-rated young prospect worth over £25 million, according to Sport Mediaset and Tuttomercatoweb reports.
Newcastle’s pursuit of Thiaw has led them to suggest a variety of possibilities, including proposing full-back Kieran Trippier as part of the deal. However, AC Milan was not interested in incorporating Trippier in the deal.
In spite of this, it is thought that a sum of money approaching £25 million might be enough to complete the transaction.
Thiaw, 22, moved from Schalke to AC Milan in the summer of 2022, and he has since played 54 games for the Serie A team. His growing stature in European football is further evidenced by the three caps he has received for the German national team as a result of his exploits.
The young defender has a reputation for being adaptable and able to play a variety of positions on the pitch. Although Thiaw’s primary position is center back, he has also been used as a striker, right back, left back, and defensive midfielder. Because of his versatility, Newcastle is drawn to him as they seek to bolster the depth of their team.
