The No. 2 player on the ATP Tour withdrew from the Madrid Open quarterfinals because of the problem. “I will only play if I’m 100 percent ready,” Sinner told reporters in Rome on Sunday. “If there’s any doubt, obviously we have to look into it.”
Over the weekend, Sinner announced on Instagram that he would not play in the 2024 Italian Open. He said he had made this decision on the basis of conversations with doctors and specialists about his “problems with the thigh.” ”

“Some injuries may be prevented, some may,” said the sinner. \ “Until now, we have done an excellent job. Last year I was able to play the whole season without any injuries and so far this season too.”

Sinner began his clay court career at the Monte Carlo Masters, where he lost in the semifinals to world No. 8 Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) to put an end to his series. Two weeks later, he started playing at the Madrid Open.

Sinner had qualified for a quarterfinal match against Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime on Sunday but withdrew from the match on Thursday due to illness. He then withdrew from the Italian Open, which was due to start the main draw on Wednesday. The clay-court tournament runs in Rome until May 19 as a warm-up for the French Open.

Two lower-level clay tournaments, the Gosnet Geneva Open and the Open Parc, take place in the week before the French Open. The second Grand Slam tournament of the series will be held at Roland Garros in Paris from May 26 to June 9.

\”Obviously, the preparation for Paris will not be optimal,\” Sinner said. \”We\’ll give our best to get there in the best possible conditions to compete, but getting to Paris without matches in Rome isn\’t easy. I believe that Rome is an important tournament to get to Paris.\”
Sinner said he didn\’t want to jeopardize his future tennis career by playing through the issue.

\”With the MRI we saw that something isn\’t 100% OK,\” Sinner said. “But we have everything under control and if it’s not 100% cured we’ll stop it for a while longer. Taking care of your body is more important than anything else.

Sinner, who began the 2024 campaign with 16 straight wins, is 28-2 this season. During this run, he won titles at the Australian Open, Rotterdam and the Miami Open. \ “I’m just trying to return 100 % as soon as possible. I hope to play in Paris, Wimbledon, and everything else,” said Thinner. \ “We’re not in a hurry, I’m not in a hurry.
