Sha’Carri Richardson won her first Olympic gold medal today, bringing the Americans from behind with a stunning anchor leg to lead her nation to glory in the 4x100m relay.
But there was disappointment for the United States in the men’s relay, as Canada claimed an unexpected gold ahead of South Africa and Britain. The U.S. were disqualified after botching their first baton exchange.
It wasn’t all bad for the American men at Stade de France, however, as Rai Benjamin won the 400m hurdles final, topping Norwegian defending gold medalist Karsten Warholm.
Earlier today, host nation France was defeated by Spain in the men’s soccer final, while the United States women’s basketball team thrashed Australia to record its 60th straight Olympic victory and advance to Sunday’s gold medal game.
