Juventus advised against selling Newcastle’s objective this summer

Former Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi has warned against selling Federico Chiesa, calling it a ‘mistake’.

Chiesa was selected Uefa’s Man of the Match in Italy’s 2-1 Euro 2024 victory over Albania, as he completed a match-high four dribbles and created two opportunities in 77 minutes.

Despite some injury issues, Chiesa has had tremendous success at Turin.

After impressing for Fiorentina, the 26-year-old joined Juventus in 2020 and has since scored 32 goals in 131 appearances across all competitions, including two Coppa Italia titles.

The attacker is also a 48-time Italy international, having scored seven goals and helped his country win the European Championships in 2021.

Chiesa, on the other hand, is nearing the end of his contract at the Allianz Stadium, and talks over a new deal are stalled.

Newcastle United, Bayern Munich, Napoli, and Roma are among the clubs reportedly interested in making an audacious bid for the forward.

Juventus pushed to retain Chiesa.

Ex-Juve midfielder Tacchinardi, who played over 400 games for the club and won six Serie A titles and a Champions League between 1994 and 2005, has urged his former team to maintain Chiesa, whom he believes has ‘unfulfilled potential’.

“I think Juve will make an error if they sell Chiesa,” he remarked (via Football Italia). “He takes rests occasionally, but he has a great engine. He is unique in one-on-one situations and deserves to be free.

“Juventus has never seen the real Chiesa. First, there was competition with Cristiano Ronaldo, and then he became hurt. Chiesa has always felt misunderstood [at Juventus], but he possesses enormous and untapped potential. When you have a guy like him on the team, you must keep him.”
