Everton defender reaches contract agreement with Newcastle

Newcastle United has signed outstanding Everton defender Aaron Apia, according to sources.

Despite significant Saudi investment, the Magpies have maintained a strong focus on youth development under Eddie Howe, and they saw success last season with Lewis Miley breaking into the first-team picture.

Newcastle are looking for youthful talent again this summer, and according to The Secret Scout, they have agreed to sign teenage defender Apia from Everton.

Who is Aaron Apia?

Apia, born in 2008, is regarded as one of England’s most promising young left-footed centre-backs.

Apia has already been on trial with Newcastle, featuring as a substitute in U18 Premier League matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United, as corroborated by his Transfermarkt profile, which shows him playing 43 minutes throughout those two games.

That trial appears to have been sufficient to secure Apia a permanent transfer to Newcastle United.

Apia has previously represented Poland at the youth national team level. However, his international future is far from definite, since the defender is also eligible to represent England and Nigeria.

The teenager is Everton’s second homegrown player to leave in rapid succession, following striker Lewis Dobbin’s move to Aston Villa, which appears to be prompted by Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Similarly, the Toffees signed England youth international midfielder Tim Iroegbunam.
