The Boston Celtics are looking for a new owner, just a few weeks after winning the NBA championship again.

Boston Basketball Partners LLC has announced plans to sell all interests of the NBA club for estate and family planning purposes.

Furthermore, the ownership group claimed that the bulk sale of the Celtics is projected to be finalized by the end of 2024 or early 2025, with the remaining sale closing in 2028.

In 2002, Wyc Grousbeck led Boston Basketball Partners to acquire the franchise for $360 million. The Executive Committee of the team also includes Wyc’s father, H. Irving Grousbeck, and Stephen Pagliuca.

During the ownership group’s 20-year tenure, the Celtics won two NBA championships, the most recent in 2024. In addition, the squad has made four NBA Finals appearances.

The ownership group likely expect a hefty offer for the Celtics due to an increase in NBA team valuations caused by many club sales over the last year, as well as the team’s historic and famous name.
Last October, Forbes put the Celtics’ price at $4.7 billion. However, following a recent NBA title triumph and Grousbeck’s pursuit of the highest possible offer, it has been claimed that the franchise might be sold for up to $5.5 billion.
