Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko has stated that the team will introduce enhancements at the British Grand Prix, as Max Verstappen’s battle with Lando Norris appears likely to continue.
Dr. Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s advisor, has indicated that the team will bring enhancements to Silverstone as they aim to recover lost position.
Max Verstappen and Lando Norris had a heated argument at the Austrian Grand Prix, highlighting their recent rivalry.
Now, ahead of the British Grand Prix, the Dutchman appears to be getting an extra boost in his efforts to hold off the McLaren driver.
The constructors’ champions began 2024 in the same overwhelming manner as they concluded 2023, but since the Chinese Grand Prix, competing teams have managed to put Red Bull in their sights.
Marko believes the discrepancy between the RB20’s theory and reality is at the foundation of the team’s present problems, but he hopes the update at the British Grand Prix will help re-establish its edge.
“We’ve been struggling with these problems since China and somewhere you get to a point where you don’t know where they came from,” the Austrian told Kleine Zeitung.
Mercedes has historically suffered with this, and Aston Martin is currently experiencing the same issue. But we weren’t used to it previously.
“We don’t know where the technology or simulator divides theory and reality.
“The automobile has potential, and up until China, we were superior. We expected an easy season that would be dull for the fans. But we’re working on it and will provide an update at Silverstone. It has to be correct; else, it will be difficult.”
Red Bull is now ‘number two’.
Ferrari began the current season as the obvious second-place team behind the initially dominant RB20, but has since dropped back despite bringing extensive improvements to Imola, the seventh round of the season.
McLaren, however, has re-passed the Scuderia in the pecking order and is undoubtedly the strongest vehicle after Red Bull. For some, including Marko, the MCL38 is currently the chassis to beat.
With Mercedes now aiming to outperform the Italian team, he is keen to underline the benefits of a revolving order of performance among those battling Red Bull.
“The balance of power behind us has shifted thus far. “Ferrari was once the strongest chaser; now it’s McLaren, and Mercedes is returning to the mix,” the 81-year-old claimed.
“However, McLaren has made significant progress and has a better car than us, particularly in terms of setup.
“Their automobile works on all tracks and with all types of tires. We’ve had some issues in the last several races, and it’s taken us a long time to establish a balance. “We are currently ranked second in terms of speed.”
