Verstappen replies to the prospect of British fan wrath

Verstappen has dismissed fears of fan wrath after colliding with Lando Norris during the British Grand Prix.

The collision between the top two drivers in the championship on lap 64 in Austria has been the primary talking point in F1 over the past week, with Norris backtracking on some of his comments on Thursday ahead of the Silverstone race.

Verstappen may face booing from British fans, as happened with Sebastian Vettel in 2013 after the’multi-21′ incident with Mark Webber, and again in 2017 following his fight with Lewis Hamilton in Azerbaijan.

However, Verstappen is unconcerned about the possibility of spectators booing.

“I’ve had that before, so I’ll just focus on the performance,” he told media outlets like RacingNews365.

“Everything is clear, which was the most important thing to me, and we can move on. Lando and I are good friends, so we talked about it and everything was resolved.

“That is the most important thing – as long as I am okay with Lando, that is the only thing I am concerned about.”

Verstappen and Norris’ friendship

Verstappen and Norris are good friends off the track, with Verstappen recounting their post-race chats on Monday, during which he swore to continue his aggressive racing style.

“I am not going to compare drivers because that doesn’t make any sense – and the only thing I cared about is maintaining my relationship with Lando, because we are great friends,” he told me.

“After the race, I explained that we just needed to let things settle down because emotions were running high – we talked mostly on Monday and decided that we truly loved our battle.

“But we were both looking at the inside, and it was such a foolish small touch that had far-reaching ramifications for both of us, as well as for Lando.

“We enjoy racing hard; we’ve done it for many years, not only in Formula One but also in online racing, where we had a lot of fun together.

“These things have to carry on because that is what we like to do – and it is great for Formula 1 as well.”
