NBA Rumors: Celtics Playoff Villain Agrees To Deal With The Sixers

The Boston Celtics nemesis is reportedly leaving the Miami Heat, but he still has a chance to cause trouble in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Philadelphia 76ers signed Caleb Martin to a four-year, $32 million contract on Saturday. The 28-year-old will share the frontcourt alongside Paul George and Joel Embiid. He also joins the free-agent class that features Eric Gordon and Andre Drummond. Paul Reed, who had a non-guaranteed contract, was waived as a result, according to Wojnarowski.

Martin’s influence against the Celtics, especially in the playoffs, is well-known among Boston fans. Martin, a former Heat forward, has averaged 13.6 points on 50% shooting in regular-season and playoff games versus the Celtics over the last two seasons. This is his highest point average against an Eastern Conference opponent.

Martin had four career 25-point performances, including two against the Celtics in the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals.

Daryl Morey, president of basketball operations, has made another significant addition to his team’s efforts to contend with the Celtics this offseason. The rumored arrangement is a setback for the Miami Heat, who are uncertain about Jimmy Butler’s future with the team.

One thing is certain: the NBA world will be eagerly anticipating a playoff matchup between Boston and Philadelphia.
