Eddie Howe’s release clause is revealed following England interest

Eddie Howe, Newcastle United manager, has a £5 million release clause in his contract at St James’ Park, which has sparked interest from the England national side.

Gareth Southgate is stepping down as Three Lions manager after Euro 2024, and Howe is emerging as the overwhelming choice to take over, but it remains to be seen how easy this will be.

Howe’s release clause was £8 million last year, but it has now been reduced to £5 million after the Magpies failed to qualify for the Champions League again, so this might be a golden opportunity for the Football Association to sign the 46-year-old.

Howe has done an excellent job at Newcastle, and he was previously well-known in the game for his work at Bournemouth.

England would do well not to hurry into a choice on their next manager following Southgate’s remarkable performance in leading them to two finals during his tenure.

Previous sources have mentioned a huge number of contenders, so even if Howe is the favourite, Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel, and Lee Carsley may still be given serious consideration.

Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard are also considered outsiders for the job, and it will be intriguing to watch what direction the team takes in this new age.

Newcastle fans, on the other hand, will undoubtedly want to keep Howe because he appears to be the best candidate to continue the club’s ambitious long-term ambition.
