Midfielder suggests he has reached an agreement to sign with Newcastle United

Young CJ Afumuzor from Portsmouth has made hints that he may soon sign with Newcastle United.

The 14-year-old midfielder has been the target of several Premier League teams, including Manchester United, in recent times.

In May, Afumuzor posted on Instagram (via the Shields Gazette) to confirm that his eight years in the Portsmouth youth system were coming to an end. It said, “23/24 season done.” Huge gratitude to Pompey and the entire team for their growth over the previous eight years.

“Welcome to Newcastle,” wrote a fellow Instagram user in a comment on Afumuzor’s post.

Fans can pretty much assume that the young player will be wearing the black and white jersey shortly because he appreciated the statement.

Afumuzor has already had a medical at St. James’ Park, and according to NUFC Blog, a cost was agreed upon between Portsmouth and Newcastle in May.

Afumuzor, who is not quite 15 years old, played as high as U16 level for Portsmouth last season and will join Newcastle’s academy teams for the 2024–2025 campaign.

Afumuzor, a center midfielder by trade, is most recognized for his ability to push the ball at the opponent defense. According to the NUFC Blog, he scored more than 20 goals for the Portsmouth minor teams last season.
