Newcastle have a £40 million deal agreed for winger

Newcastle United have reportedly reached an agreement with Lyon to sign winger Yankuba Minteh for a fee of around £40 million.

The transfer is hindered by Minteh’s desire to remain in the Premier League and his refusal to discuss personal terms with the French club, as reported by The Sun.

It states that Minteh has communicated to Newcastle, who need to secure significant funds through player sales before June 30 to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, that he will not be coerced into a transfer that does not align with his career goals, despite the club’s financial constraints.

His approach presents a substantial challenge to fair play (FFP) and profit and sustainability rules.

Newcastle’s need to sell players derives from a desire to acquire revenue while avoiding FFP violations.

Minteh’s refusal to leave the club complicates these attempts, increasing the pressure on the Magpies to find alternate ways to pay their financial responsibilities.

In the summer of 2023, the Magpies signed the winger from Odense for €8 million. He was loaned out to Dutch team Feyenoord, where he scored 11 goals and assisted 6 in 37 matches.

Minteh’s decision to stay in the Premier League might have a huge impact on Newcastle’s transfer plan. The club now faces the problem of persuading the player to change his mind or identifying other players who can be sold to raise the necessary revenue.
