This means Eddie Howe now has five goalkeepers in his squad, along with Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka and Mark Gillespie. Interestingly, the club are also thought to be maintaining an interest in Burnley’s James Trafford, so that figure isn’t going to go up.

Last season there were four. Responding to supporters on X (formerly Twitter), journalist Alan Nixon shared some information.

Gillespie did not play any matches. Loris Karius has rightly been released and Dubravka has been linked, but the business may not end there.

Responding to supporters on X (formerly Twitter), journalist Alan Nixon offered some insight: Asked about the club’s interest in Trafford and what having so many goalkeepers would mean for the squad, Nixon suggested “two out of five” would leave.

Dubravka has reportedly been linked with a move away, so it will be interesting to see who else stands in the way. Pope himself has not been seen pushing for a departure from Newcastle, but the player in his position is under contract and remains a target.

There has been speculation that the England international is uneasy at the club, but Howe stressed that Pope has no desire to leave St James’ Park this summer. Obviously, this doesn’t definitively mean he’ll stay – just that he won’t push for an exit as things stand.

With Vlachodimos and Ruddy only recently walking through the door and Gillespie signing a new contract, it remains to be seen which goaltenders end up leaving.
