Newcastle submit £16m bid for a player Liverpool keeps an eye on

In an effort to bolster his goalkeeping depth, Eddie Howe of Burnley has received an offer from Newcastle worth roughly £16 million for goalkeeper James Trafford.

Due to injuries, Nick Pope missed much of the Magpies’ season. The Newcastle manager wants to see competition for the 32-year-old.

The Daily Mail claims that because of Howe’s admiration for Trafford, the Tyneside club has put in a £16 million proposal for the England international. That is anticipated to be turned down, though, as The Clarets insist on a £20 million price.

Negotiations to acquire the 21-year-old are reportedly taking place, and Newcastle will want to finalize the deal as soon as possible because Burnley’s star is reportedly being pursued by Chelsea, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich.

Trafford had a difficult 2023–24 season since he made a lot of mistakes in his first Premier League season and Vincent Kompany eventually benched him due to his play.

However, the young player has demonstrated his ability to be a top goalie and may be close to finalizing a significant transfer.

James Trafford is being watched by Liverpool as Caoimhin Kelleher’s replacement.

The Daily Mail lists Liverpool as Trafford’s possible next stop, and if Caoimhin Kelleher leaves Anfield this summer, the Reds will probably try to sign the 21-year-old.

The 25-year-old Ireland international goalie has been Alisson’s backup for a number of years, but he wants to start for a different team in the 2024–2025 season. It is said that Nottingham Forest and Celtic are interested in selling the Irishman, and Liverpool would target Trafford there if he is sold.

Nevertheless, it appears like Newcastle is committed to closing a deal for the Burnley player, and by the time Kelleher’s future is resolved, Trafford will have already changed teams.
