Player signs a two-year deal shortly after departing Newcastle

Dylan Stephenson will join Dagenham & Redbridge, a National League team, after his contract with Newcastle United expires later this month, the club announced on their website.

When the Magpies announced their retained list last month, they disclosed which players will be leaving St. James’ Park when their contracts expire on June 30.

Stephenson was one of the players that did not have his contract extended by the Magpies.

Stephenson spent the second half of the previous season in South Shields under the management of former academy coach Elliott Dickman, where he scored eight goals for the Mariners.

The striker participated in his debut non-competitive senior match at St. James’ Park against Atalanta in July 2022, having signed with the Magpies at the age of 14.

He scored in the squad’s 5-0 triumph over Al Hilal, a Saudi Pro League team, a few months later.

The 21-year-old rose through Newcastle United’s ranks without ever playing for the senior team in a competitive match.

Additionally, he played for Hamilton on a short-term loan in Scotland, where he scored just once.

It was not shocking to learn that Newcastle United will release Stephenson at the end of the season.

Stephenson’s future at Newcastle United was uncertain.

The twenty-one-year-old was not on the senior squad. He was on loan to South Shields, a team in the National League North, for the second half of the 2023–2024 season.

Among the numerous players who have left the team this summer are Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett.
