The Chiefs and Carolina Panthers are vying for the $98 million trade candidate, Marshon Lattimore.According to one source, the Green Bay Packers are interested in trading for the veteran cornerback, despite the fact that other options exist. The Packers could benefit from a trade with Jaire Alexander to establish a strong secondary. However, Lattimore isn’t the same player he was when he first entered the NBA, so he may be able to pursue a ring in his career.
Bleacher Report made seven wild predictions, including the Saints moving away Lattimore during next NFL Training Camp. It is the last window before the regular season, giving teams one more opportunity to trade a player. The coaches can see what the athletes do on the field this month with their pads on, which could influence whether or not they make a deal. Lattimore is not getting any younger, thus the longer they wait, the less value they will receive in exchange for him.
The Chiefs are still looking for a seasoned cornerback after selling away L’Jarius Sneed. New Orleans is in cap hell, so it’s not surprising that they’d move on. Brandon Stephens has large shoes to fill this year, but it may be prudent for Baltimore to bring in someone like Lattimore as veteran insurance. Humphrey cannot do it alone, and the lack of a veteran on the opposite end may be the reason for this defense’s weakness.
The loss of Geno Stone this offseason will expose their deficiencies if they do not act swiftly, but they could emerge as legitimate contenders if they make one last big trade. The Titans and Texans were successful this offseason, and the Ravens are just one trigger away from accomplishing the same.
Los Angeles Chargers
It isn’t the Chargers’ most pressing need, but they did sign Kristian Fulton, a high-risk player with a history of injuries.The team should consider bringing in Lattimore once they have enough cap room, as Asante Samuel Jr. appears to be the lone elite cornerback on paper for the upcoming season. It will most likely be too late to get him in because he will have already signed with another team by the time the Chargers have additional cap flexibility. However, if they choose to gamble, they can do so.
Dallas Cowboys
Everyone assumes that the Cowboys are safe at cornerback with Trevon Diggs returning this year. This is not the case, as releasing Stephon Gilmore increased production in this secondary. It was truly evident in what DaRon Bland demonstrated in his first year, so it’s difficult to forecast how this secondary will perform. Lattimore is too expensive, yet he gives immediate assistance in replacing Gilmore’s departure for the remainder of his career.
