Arsenal Women’s Football Club has announced that Leah Williamson will miss the upcoming UEFA Women’s Champions League second-round tie against BK Häcken due to concussion protocol.
Williamson, who recently returned from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that sidelined her for several months, sustained a concussion during training. As a precaution, she will not be available for selection in the crucial match against Häcken.
Head coach Jonas Eidevall confirmed Williamson’s absence, stating, “It’s guided by our medical team, and when I have something more concrete to communicate, I will do that.” He emphasized the importance of following medical advice to ensure Williamson’s full recovery.
Arsenal faces a challenging task, trailing 1-0 from the first leg against Häcken. Williamson’s leadership and defensive prowess will be missed as the Gunners aim to overturn the deficit and secure a place in the Champions League group stage.
This setback comes after Williamson’s arduous rehabilitation from her ACL injury, which she described as “months of hell.” Her recent return to action had been a significant boost for both club and country.
The club and fans alike are hopeful for Williamson’s swift recovery and return to full fitness, as her contributions are vital to Arsenal’s ambitions this season.
