The San Francisco 49ers recently made a roster change that generated some fan backlash.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on Tuesday that the team has reached an agreement with cornerback Deommodore Lenoir to extend his contract for four years and $92 million.

The 25-year-old, who was selected in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, was approaching the final year of his rookie contract and was scheduled to become a free agency.

Retaining Lenoir was a sensible option given that he has developed as one of the 49ers’ best defensive players. As of Week 10, the former Oregon player has 53 tackles, two interceptions, six passes defended, and one forced fumble, making him an important part of the team’s defensive lineup.

Lenoir is presently tied with Fred Warner for the most passes defended and interceptions on the club, and his tackle total is second among 49ers.

Although Lenoir has outperformed expectations, several supporters have expressed worries that the organization overpaid to keep him.
