NEW ORLEANS –Indiana State Cross Country and Track and Field Program Director and Head Coach, Angela Martin, was named the 2024 USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year, according to the organization’s announcement on Friday.

Martin was named the region’s coach of the year for the second consecutive season and has guided the Sycamores to unprecedented heights over the last three years. She also won the MVC Track and Field Coach of the Year title for both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2024. Indiana State has won the last three MVC Men’s Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field titles, and the Sycamores set program records for points scored in both 2024 titles.

Indiana State concluded with a program record 221.5 points on the men’s side, the first time the Trees had scored more than 200 points in a conference championship. The Sycamores had eight individual conference champions and 17 all-conference awards on the men’s side during a strong performance at the Gibson Track & Field Complex.

For the third consecutive year, the Sycamores qualified for the NCAA East First Round with double-digit entrants, marking Indiana State’s finest three-year span in almost a decade.Elias Foor qualified for the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in the discus throw and was named Second Team All-America.

Indiana State had 18 men’s top-10 marks during the 2024 outdoor season. This outdoor season, the Sycamores broke two men’s program records: Will Staggs (pole vault) and the 4x100m relay team of Casey Hood Jr., Daunte Majors, Isiah Thomas, and Tahj Johnson.

Indiana State also won many specialized awards this season.Elias Foor was voted the Most Valuable Athlete in the MVC Outdoor Championships. He scored 26 points in all four throws events, including three podium finishes.Jake Ottersbach became the first Sycamore to win the decathlon since 2001, earning him MVC Freshman of the Year honors.

Friday’s announcement marks Martin’s fourth USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year honor (2023 women’s outdoor, 2022 women’s indoor, 2023 men’s outdoor, 2024 men’s outdoor).
