Petrie wrecked at Handley’s, triggering a red flag in the Supertwin race, which Michael Dunlop eventually won.

Marshals were commended for their quick response to Petrie’s accident. He was admitted to the hospital immediately.

Petrie required surgery on his arm, wrist, elbow, and jaw.

His team, People’s Bike.com, issued an update on Petrie’s status via social media.

It said, “Just a quick update from Jack’s family for you.”

“Jack underwent more surgery last weekend and is still as comfortable as he can be in Aintree Hospital.

“He is still confused about where he is and what has happened, but given the injuries he sustained, we are just grateful that he is awake and attempting to climb out of his hospital bed.”

“Thank you all again for your kind words and letters over the last several weeks; they’ve been a big help to Jack’s family and friends, as well as to all of us in the team.

“We will keep you updated once we have more news.”

The team previously stated that “Jack has a number of other injuries, most of which will hopefully mend themselves.”

The team added: “Jack’s family has asked that we express their profound gratitude to all of the Marshals and Paramedics who came to Jack’s aid last weekend.

“Your quick actions and support throughout the incident have undoubtedly given Jack the best chance of recovery and for that we are all truly grateful.”
